$100,000 GRANT TO HELP PENDING PHARMACY PROGRAM

BUFFALO – D’Youville College has been awarded a $100,000 grant from the Patrick P. Lee Foundation of Amherst to be used for the college’s pending pharmacy program. The program is part of the school’s centennial campaign launched in January 2008 and is awaiting approval from the State Department of Education.

The startup costs for the pharmacy program are estimated at $5.7 million and the associated building project, estimated to cost about $21 million, are the focus of the Campaign, according to William P. McKeever, Director of Foundation Relations.

The Foundation was founded in 2005 to help “support organizations that serve the public interest and address critical needs within the community.” Formed by Patrick P. Lee, a local inventor, entrepreneur and industrialist, as a broad-based charitable organization dedicated to promoting awareness through education and research, it is one of Western New York’s largest.

“We are developing a curriculum that prepares our graduates for a lifetime of service to patients and communities. This gift is a visible sign of the community’s support for our program and its values, said Gary P. Stoehr, dean and professor of D’Youville’s pending pharmacy school. “We are deeply grateful for the generous support of the Patrick P. Lee Foundation.

The proposed pharmacy school will complement other health care programs at D’Youville, long known for it nursing, physical and occupational therapy, physician assistant, dietetics and chiropractic programs.
